How To Get New Traffic To Old Posts

how to get new traffic to old posts

Often a new post gains a high spike in interest when first posted. This is commonly due to promotion on social media and general timeliness of the content. After time, this attention drops off. Good posts should not be forgotten and can still be used to drive traffic.

Old But Not Forgotten

The following 10 tips may help you attract attention to your older blog posts.

1) Remember the footer: Add a footer on all new posts to older (relevant) posts. The “You might also enjoy reading this” WordPress widget can do this automatically.

2) Add links: Add a menu bar or column that includes links to older/archived articles. This includes using sitemaps, archives and tag clouds.

3) Use categories: Ensure posts have tags and categories.

4) References: Reference older posts in new posts. For example: Back in 2010 I wrote about XYZ…

5) Create a series: Many older posts can easily gel together with newer ones.

6) Updates: Add updates to older posts. A simple “Updated (Date)” with a couple of words at the top of an older post may bring attract visitors.

7) Advertise: Share older post links on other social media site you use. In forums and community sites members may ask for advice that your older blog posts can answer.

8) Avoid Repetition: Avoid reposting older posts verbatim. This may damage your search engine rankings.

9) Analytics: Study your analytics. Discover how your visitors land on your blog and exploit these “doorways”. Remember that not all visitors will first land on your index/front page.

10) Other mediums: Utilise other communication methods to promote older posts. If you have a regular email newsletter, consider adding links to older posts in these messages.

How To Boost Your Blog Pageviews In 9 Quick Ways

Few months ago,I created this blog and since then it got me thinking about the growth I've made with this blog. At first, i never paid attention to my pageviews. I only paid attention to comments, referrers and followers but I never paid attention to pageviews. Developing my blog, I got to know that pageviews are very important and it also brings opportunities (monetization, collaboration, etc). I've been running this blog for about three months and am still consistently growing my blog in different ways.
Here are few steps I've taken over the past few months to grow my blog.

9 quick ways to boost your blog pageviews

1. OPTIMIZE PINTEREST AND PIN YOUR POSTS
Pinning each of your posts is one of the easiest ways to get your content out into the world. But aside from just pinning, there are a few other ways you can take advantage of Pinterest to grow your readership. By now, you probably already know that vertical-oriented images perform better on Pinterest. Try to always include one Pinterest-optimized image in your blog posts that is tall and include text if relevant (like if it’s a “how-to” type of blog post). Next, you’ll want to make sure you don’t have any mistakes talked about in this resources blog post . You can also try to include a CTA in your captions or enable rich pins (that way the viewer will automatically know what kind of article they’re clicking into). Lastly, make sure your content can easily be pinned by readers!

2. GET ACTIVE ON A NEW SOCIAL MEDIA NETWORK
Is there a social media channel you haven’t tried yet, like Twitter or FB groups? If so, try one of these new networks out for a month and see what it does! Different people hang out on different social apps, so this is a great way to get your name out to new people.

3. TWEAK YOUR TITLES AND INCLUDE BUZZWORDS
Titles are the first thing most of your potential readers will see. Put yourself in the shoes of your blog readers and ask yourself if your title would be intriguing enough to make you click through to read the rest of the post. Add some buzzwords like “how to”, “free” or “the top ___ ways to ___” But only if they’re relevant to your blog post.

4. TRY ADVERTISING WITH A BLOG YOU ADMIRE
Purchasing an ad from a blogger with a similar vibe as you can get your blog introduced to a whole new group of people. Remember to make sure you’re advertising with someone who has an audience relatable to your ideal reader (you want to attract people who will love your content). Also, check out their stats before purchasing an ad to see if it’s worth it to you.

5. FEATURE OTHER BLOGGERS AND BLOG POSTS
Blogging is about community so you might find that when you give a little love, you get a little love. I hesitated to list this one as a way to increase pageviews, because featuring others should always be genuine and you really shouldn’t expect anything in return. But if you can find ways to naturally shout out to your favorite bloggers, go for it! Engaging in the blogging community is an amazing way to grow your blog authentically.

6. LEAVE COMMENTS ON BLOG POSTS YOU ENJOY
Along the same lines, leaving comments is an effective way to lead people back to your site. Of course that should never be the goal. Notice how I said to leave comments on posts you enjoy. Keep your comments honest and genuine and the author of the blog will probably click back to your site (we always do!).

7. REVIVE YOUR OLD CONTENT
It’s always unfortunate when your valuable content gets buried in the archives of your site.
Bring it back into focus for your new readers who may not have seen it! You might try posting something like “10 of my top DIY projects” and highlight your older posts. Or you can add a “related posts” section to the bottom of your entries. The most natural way for us to share old content is to link to it in our newer posts (like I did in the last paragraph).

8. SHOW EXCERPTS RATHER THAN FULL TEXT
If you’re like me, you’re not a big fan of scrolling. Sometimes I just don’t make it through a whole long page of blog posts (I know, what a lazy millennial). So I love when posts on the blog home page just show excerpts with a “read more” button, maybe in a grid layout. This isn’t particularly necessary, but it can be nice for your readers and for you since it’ll encourage readers to click around your site more.

9. ADD ANOTHER WEEKLY POST TO YOUR SCHEDULE
Disclaimer: I think you can experience blog growth whether you post twice a week or six times a week, so don’t be discouraged if you feel like you can’t post every day (especially if you’re blogging solo!). But if you have time, test the waters out by adding an extra post to your week.

If you can make a habit of incorporating a few of these tips into your blog writing/promoting process, I’m sure you’ll experience growth in your site’s traffic. Let us know if you decide to try one of these methods or if anything different has worked for you!

How To And where You Can Buy Cheap Domain

cheap domain blog

Numerous internet users, bloggers, writers, entrepreneurs, etc. come across one common problem when they start their website or blog. How do we save in on a domain name? To answer to this major and the most common query, I have come up with some factors and their solutions. There are numerous factors that play a role in deciding the price of a domain name. Just like the number plate of a car, in case you want a Premium Domain Name, it is bound to cost you more.

One thing that additionally we observe is that people usually buy the domain and get it registered at the same place. I wouldn’t say that this is something that shouldn’t be done, but what I want to lay emphasis upon is that you should get the best of each of the two services. In case you’re finding both your needs satisfied at two different places, then you should probably go with it. This will provide you with an added security that even if your hosting account is hacked into, your domain name would still be safe.

Before buying a Domain Name, you should consider numerous factors and then compare them with others before settling on a choice. Below I mention you the five most famous companies which offer the best in class hosting services, at affordable prices:

Also Read:

GoDaddy.com
This web hosting company has been able to sneak into every list related to web hosting services.
Though the most controversial web hosting organisation on the planet, GoDaddy.com had seen tough times in the year 2012, however, has successfully recovered from the same. The company offers its web hosting facilities at a rate as low as $1.99 a year, however, has too much of hidden costs. The actual first-year price is $10 while from the subsequent years it rises to $15(See the ‘too much’ hidden cost I was talking about). However, the quality of service it offers is second to none and there is no reason why you shouldn’t give these domain registrars a try.

Domain.com
This domain hosting and registration provider has plans starting from as low as $9.99 a year. It offers one of the cheapest registration services and has numerous plans for you to consider. Its .org domain is priced at $8.99 a year and a .mobi domain is at $2.99 a year. This domain provider offers too many services at very affordable and nominal charges. It offers numerous payment methods which include PayPal, American Express, and MasterCard.

Name.com
This organisation has .org, .net domains starting at a price as low as $10.99 a year. However, don’t think that they won’t provide you with quality service at this price; they have one of the best customer support as well as services in the area of web hosting.
They aren’t the cheapest, still have huge numbers of customizable plans for you to try and purchase according to your needs.
They also offer you the choice of getting some expired domain names which are a bit costly but you may end up getting the one that meets all your needs.

Namecheap.com
Namecheap.com is another one of the popular hosting sites which offers the ‘.com’ Domains at a price of $10.98 a year and a .net and a .org domain at a rate of $11.48 a year. Their customer support, as well as the services offered, are worth appreciation. The only hidden cost that they have is of 18 cents which is required for ICANN registration a year. So, it is one of the best alternatives to GoDaddy domain.
Also, you can benefit from numerous offers that they offer which include Facebook and Twitter contests where you get a web hosting at the cheapest price.

Some of the facts for you to know while searching and buying a Domain are:

A Domain Name which is precise and short will dependably cost you more. For example, domain name www.blog.com will cost you more, firstly, because the word ‘blog’ is used and searched by many and secondly because it is followed with a ‘.com’. Therefore, people tend to go for alternatives such as adding ‘the’ before the name, just as to lower the price of the domain name. However, note that www.theblog.com will result in lower performance than simply blog.com.

1. New TLD’s: There have been numerous top level domains that have been registered and released as an alternative to .com, therefore, consider utilising these will cost you less than going for something as common as .com. Some TLD’s released lately are .guru, .design etc.

2. Also, if your domain name consists of misspelling or special characters such as #, _ etc. you tend to lose traffic, so keep this in mind too.

3. Always verify with your domain provider that whether they are registered with the ICANN or not. It is a standard check that comprises of numerous in-depth checks, which helps you know that the company is committed.

4. Make sure that you have full control over your domain. There are many service providers that do not allow you to make changes to your Domain and hence for changing certain things you need to write to their customer support.

5. Also, make sure to ask your domain provider whether they charge any transfer fees i.e. transfer from a .org to a .net domain, etc. Some providers even charge a release fee.

6. Also, never register your Domain Name in the name of someone who is likely to forget to renew the Domain and the Hosting. They might be more tech savvy than you, but you will lose your site if they forget to renew the membership on time.

Summarising
Consider the price, the amount of control you get, ease of access you have and the customer support they provide before settling on the final deal.

Also, if you want a fair idea of the cost, I would say that you should be able to get all of the above services under $20 provided you do not have a very high traffic and your website or blog is not greater than 50 MB in size.

What You Should Consider Knowing Before Choosing A WordPress Hosting Provider

wordpress hosting provider

Speed, security, and reliability are all important factors that you need to consider when choosing your WordPress hosting.
However, the most important factor that you should consider is “Your Needs”. Evaluating your needs before purchasing your WordPress hosting can save your time and money

Evaluating Your WordPress Hosting Needs

There are different types of web hosting options available such as Free, Shared, VPS, Dedicated, and Managed. Let’s take a look at each of these options to determine which is best solution for you.

• Free WordPress Hosting
There are free web hosting available, but almost all of them have some sort of catch. Usually, you can find free WordPress hosting being offered in online forums or small groups.
In most cases, these are managed by an individual who is reselling a small part of his server space to cover up some revenue. Often the catch is that you have to put their banner ads on the site. Some may ask you to put a text link in the footer of your site. These folks will sell that banner ad or text link to cover up the cost of your free space along with pocketing the profits. The biggest downside of having a free host aside from the ads is that they are unreliable. You never know when this person will stop offering the free service. They can leave you hanging at any time. If you are serious about your website or business, then avoid Free WordPress hosting at all costs.

• Shared WordPress Hosting
Shared hosting is by far the most popular type of WordPress hosting used by beginners. It is the most affordable and quite frankly a good starting point for new users. Shared hosting is where you share a large server with a lot of sites. By having multiple sites on the same server, hosting providers can offer the service at a much affordable rate. The biggest catch that we see with shared hosting across all providers (including the ones we recommend below) is the unlimited resources. There is no such thing as unlimited. While it says unlimited, you still have usage restrictions. If your site starts to take up substantial server load, they will politely force you to upgrade your account. If they don’t take this action, then it can have a negative effect on the overall performance of other sites hosted on the same server. It gets back to conventional wisdom. As your business grows, so will your overhead cost.

Shared WordPress hosting is the best solution for small businesses, and starting bloggers

• WordPress VPS Hosting
Virtual Private Server (VPS) refers to a virtual machine. It is a method of partitioning a physical server computer into multiple servers with respects to the individual customer’s need. Even though, you are sharing the server with a handful others, this gives you almost as much control as a dedicated server. It also has the privacy of a separate physical computer and can be configured to run specific server softwares. Often developers, intermediate users, and medium-sized bloggers utilize VPS to scale their websites.
If you do NOT have any technical knowledge, then you need to make sure that you purchase a managed VPS. This means that the WordPress hosting provider manages all system upgrades, and they are available to assist you if needed.

VPS WordPress hosting is best for medium sized businesses, high traffic blogs, and aspiring designers/developers.

• WordPress Dedicated Server Hosting
Dedicated server is a physical server that you can lease from the hosting provider. This allows you to have full control over the server including the choice of operating system, hardware etc. You DO NOT need a dedicated server if you are just starting out. Once your site is receiving a significant amount of traffic, only then you should consider upgrading to a dedicated server. If you do not employ a system administrator or have no experience with servers, then we recommend that you get a managed dedicated server.
WordPress hosting providers that offer managed dedicated servers employ full-time system administrators that maintain your servers. Along with doing software updates, they also do server monitoring, offer phone support etc. Most top websites use clusters of dedicated servers.

WordPress Dedicated Servers are best for extremely high traffic blogs.

• Managed WordPress Hosting
Due to the large number of users using WordPress, few web hosting providers have chosen to offer managed WordPress hosting. An account with one of these providers only allow you to host WordPress based sites and nothing else. The benefit of Managed WordPress Hosting is that you do not have to worry about ANYTHING. They optimize your site for performance, make sure that your site is secure, and keep regular backups. On top of that they advise you if a specific plugin is having a negative impact.

Bottom line, managed WordPress hosting is hassle free fast WordPress hosting with high quality support from staff with lots of WordPress experience. While all this sounds amazing, the plans for managed WordPress hosting is usually on the higher end of the scale. For example a personal account with a popular managed WordPress hosting provider costs $29/month where you can only host 1 site (getting maximum of 25,000 visitors per month). The next level higher where you are allowed multiple domains will cost you $99/ month. A person starting out a blog cannot afford this.

Managed WordPress hosting is great for established bloggers who can justify the expense with their revenue. It is for people who do not have the skills/time to deal with the technical side of things. I recommend WPEngine for Managed WordPress hosting.

Now that you know all of your WordPress hosting options, it is time for you to make a decision. WPEngine runs several sites that get millions of pageviews per month. They have tested and worked with all top web hosting companies in the industry. Each of these WordPress hosting companies provide excellent service and support. I give each of them a perfect 5 out of 5 star rating.

content management system

Content Management Systems

Are you a content manager of an organisation and have to deal daily newsfeeds etc.? Or are you a passionate blogger and need to organise all those content you produce? Content Management Systems is the best choice for the people like you. These provide you with a framework for organising all the content that you have developed and publishing that on the web.

Diving in a Little Deep

Content Management system (CMS) is a favourite tool in the internet industry as it helps site administrators’ display their information amongst masses. This CMS or management system does not have to be online and can be used efficiently in the organisations that have more expansive needs.

The content management system allows multiple users or bloggers to manage content information on the websites or project on an internet application. It has the capability of providing the users with the permission to access partial or entire content available. Using this tool you can have a centralised control over the content you produce and arrange this information in a sequential manner. This tool is mostly being used in the fields of e-commerce, blogging and web applications.

When I mention “manage content”, I mean developing, editing, filing, reporting, gathering, information and data. Think: blog. These are sites that require regular maintenance and upkeep to remain just as interesting for the readers. That’s a lot of content for multiple people to handle; therefore, a CMS can make your life easier.

content management system

Some of the Best CMS:

So now you have a quick idea of what a Content Management Software (CMS) is all about. Now which CMS to choose? Or what all CMS choices do you have? For this we list to you, the five top CMS utilised today along with the features that they offer.

1. WordPress
Started in the year 2003 as one of the blogging sites WordPress has become one of the most loved tools for content management. What separates WordPress from the others available in the market? The answer is – its simple user interface. WordPress has the most interactive user interface along with easy to use controls. You don’t require any specific technical skills to design your website and host it in no time. For refinement, you might require some back-end knowledge; however, that is not at all a necessity.

WordPress provides numerous free templates for you to use and hence create an eye-catching website. All you need to do is install WP and configure it according to your choices. This CMS is extremely flexible and offers you many interactive features to add to your website. And the best part is that it is totally FREE!! Yes-free! You can design the website all by yourself without paying any amount to the website developers.

2. Drupal
Similar to WordPress, Drupal is also an open source CMS available for designing your blog or website. Numerous popular websites such as the site of White House etc. have chosen this platform for their development. And there is probably no reason that this CMS cannot suit your needs. Unlike WordPress, in Drupal, you have ultimate control over the URL or the permalink of your site. This CMS is search engine friendly and ranks higher than other competitors such as Joomla.

A USP of this CMS is that it allows you to uniquely classify each content page as a blog, story, podcast, etc. You can create numerous categories in Drupal and let the software known how you want this category to be displayed.

3. Joomla
Ranked amongst the top three, Joomla is considered a bit different CMS than WordPress and Drupal. With Joomla, you can handle a site with heavy article content with much ease. Although Joomla doesn’t have a much interactive interface or customizable functions, it provides features that are in the middle of these two. Blog users might be very much amazed at the features that Joomla offers with regards to article management.

Other features that you get in this CMS include image resizing, advertisement management, content scheduling, metadata customization, etc. And again, all these things are available at absolutely no cost.

4. Expression Engine
Ranking fourth on the list, expression engine is a CMS, which is a combination of open source and paid versions. By the combination of open source and paid, we mean that to get its services you need to spend in a couple of bucks, but once you purchase it, you can customise it according to your needs and add your own plug-ins. This CMS is also very user-friendly and one can work both in the back end as well as in the front end.

Some features that it offers on administrative level include data export, extension manager, site membership, etc. On user level, you can manage user profiles, create member groups, etc.

5. eZ publish
eZ Publish is again one of the popular CMS available and utilised. However, this supports a lot of functions but for working with this software, you need to have some basic technical knowledge. It is not meant for the people who cannot dig in to customise their source code. The USP of this CMS is that it offers numerous functionalities at a single click. Anything that you need to add to your blog or website, you can directly download it from the downloads section.

This is more of enterprise management software, however, is helpful and very easy to use for bloggers with a bit of technical knowledge.

Does having a CMS alone solve all
your issues?

So do you think that having a CMS alone can solve you issue? Think again. Having a CMS might solve the majority of the issues for you, but there are some restrictions to this as well. For example, consider a case where you have WordPress as your CMS, which provides a user-friendly interface and easy controls. However, now you decide on to add log-in functionality to your blog, for this, you would require some back end programming knowledge, only after which this issue can be resolved.

Similarly using a CMS doesn’t guarantee that your website or blog will be successful, rather CMS will produce the most organised content, but it will be you who will be responsible for successful marketing and quality assurance of your content. If you only depend on CMS services for your blogs to be successful then my friend you will be left disappointed.

MY CONCLUSION

So, after going through all the CMS options available to you, you may conclude that WordPress is the best, which is not wrong. If you are a beginner in the field of Blogging, then, WordPress is undoubtedly the best for you. You can read more about this in my article Why WordPress?

Indeed some CMS are open sources but monetary aid is a major concern by hiring a company for the same if CMS needs to be updated for customer satisfaction.

Secondly, systematic investigation is required to have different CMS options.

List of various CMS needs to be maintained for choosing the best one. For this, reference needs to be taken from other business person by discussing the pros and cons. Once the search is being started, go through the CMS companies. Choosing a large or popular CMS should not always be the criteria.

WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, SilverStripe are some examples of CMS companies.

Many CMS companies are open source also, somehow if nobody in open source companies is providing information on how to use it, then supporting companies should be the best option.

If the company is not engaged with IT department, CMS expert is hired for technical support.

Now, ask CMS vendor to show the exact working of their CMS. Installation part needs to be understood first carefully and efficiently. Once finished with installation, ask for how often it needs to be updated because updating is an ongoing process that requires various steps in which consistency is a big and a major task to prevent halting a system. If you are an e commerce website, then maintenance at a large scale can prove curse.

Furthermore, front end and back end are primary concern. Front end is a look-and- feel of your website which is maintained by using a well-designed template.

Depending on the requirements to customize the appearance of a website, make sure that the current template is having the features for customization. With back end handling, ask vendor how changes at back end will be permissible because every business needs to change the information as required without any assistance.

content management system

As some of the information is not published for public but only accessible to company employees, so functionality of intranet must be known. You should ask your CMS vendor towards progressive ideas of his CMS as business and customer grow and increase, so for customization our requirements would able to be fulfill or not.

Lastly, for choosing a CMS, use a sandbox version or demo from your selected 4-5 vendors. Choose the most effective employees for using demo in 1: n ratio of demo to people. Instruct them to upload information and see the changes.

Then select a CMS and prepare a deadline to be met. Before making commitment for a longer period, test it for some target period. After finalizing, implement it by conducting a needful training program for its proper use.

Examples of some CMS include:

1. WordPress

Currently, WordPress is the most liked and admired CMS for blogging. Majority of websites on Internet are using WordPress. Although, it started career as blogger platform but now it reached heights to Content Management System as its footprints are developing huge ecommerce portals, forums etc.

2. Umbraco

It is in the top five most server applications. It is built on Microsoft .NET technology and many .NET developers use it as a CMS. Due to its no cost, quality of being understood, open source licensing, it is a choice of many developers. It is a matter of pride of having 85000 installation of Umbraco. Instead of using it as a personal blog, it proves a better CMS for organizations running large sites.

3. Joomla

The biggest competitor of WordPress is Joomla. Joomla is having around above 7000 extensions that make it community very active. It’s very easy in Joomla to find extension of anything and loads of themes are available very easily. But to use it, one has to pay for its plugins and many more themes.

4. Drupal

Drupal is also the most considered CMS by most of the web developers. Its new version Drupal 7 has been launched recently. Being easier to use, more scalable and its flexibility makes it a powerful open source content management system empowering millions of websites. Drupal forum is also very popular about its quick response of questions.

5. SilverStripe

It is similar to WordPress but only limited to content management system rather than blogging. SilverStripe community is putting emphasis on translating their application framework and CMS into various languages. Perhaps, this proves many users to bend towards this providing a rapid growth in business. It maintains its reputation in having good hands on SEO also.

6. GetSimple

It is the most simple content management system which is having everything a client needs. It is XML based CMS having a brilliant user interface. Regardless of having lot of features in large companies, it is very simple to use, easy to install and customize.

So, now get set go and choose the most effectives CMS to design your website.

How To Write A Blog Post

a laptop

How to write a blog posts?

You may have found it a bit difficult to write articles on regular basis for your website. You may have many thoughts, or rather many amazing thoughts I should say, but when it comes to jot down the same, we are not able to do so, the way we actually think. We are not able to write in that excellence, the way it is in our mind. Here are some ways which will tell you about how to write a blog or I should say short, efficient and unique articles which will define your blog in the best possible way.

Ways to write quality articles for your blog

1. Create a Date sheet:
The very first task you need to accomplish is to create a calendar which contains the topics that on which date you’ll write an article on what topic.

2. Search for a good domain:
The second step to be followed to answer the question – “How to write a blog” is finding a domain on which you want to start writing. Obviously, you must have a topic to write upon. It would be extremely easy and would be a fun for you if the domain or the topic is of your field of interest. So, search your mind and heart and go for the field which makes you happy. Instead of searching for How to write a blog, first get an answer to why to write it and what topic you must choose.

3. Divide your content in categories:
Before start writing you will have to categorize your content so that it becomes easy for you to write an impressive article for your users. Dividing will make your writing more creative and artistic.

4. Read, Think and Jot:
Having a good knowledge is also an important factor which will make your blog presentable and enjoyable. So, first read as much as you can about the topic on which you’re writing, then think, create a brainstorm and pen them down.

5. Create Links:
Linking your article to other relevant contents is also a major and an important part of writing an SEO ( Search Engine Optimization ) friendly post. So create a few links which will redirect your visitor to other relevant articles, may it be on your own website or on some another website.

5 Things To Do Before You Start Guest Blogging

In one of my previous post, i discussed guest blogging and some of its benefits that entrepreneurs and small businesses can get out of it.

However, like any other marketing activity, guest blogging cannot be done in isolation and needs to be connected with certain pre and post activities in order to make it really work.

Keeping that in mind, here are a few things that, I believe, every website should do before launching a guest blogging campaign.

1) Have a Clear Objective with Guest
Blogging

This might sound very obvious, but nothing is more important for the success of your guest blogging efforts than having a clear objective.

Far too many businesses and bloggers consider guest blogging to be a solution itself.

Naturally, most of them never achieve any notable results from it.

Guest blogging is only a bridge between you and your objective. It is not the objective itself.

That’s why it is extremely important to ask yourself why you’re guest blogging and what exactly do you expect to achieve from it.

Guest blogging objectives can vary according to your business needs. For example, a freelance writer like me would use guest blogging to attract more clients.

Similarly, an online furniture shop could use guest blogging to attract potential clients to its website.

While this may seem very obvious, your objective will ultimately define the type of blogs you choose for guest blogging and the type of content you develop for your guest posts.

In short, a clear objective will give direction to every aspect of your guest blogging campaign.

2) Choose the Right Blogs
Once you determine your objectives for guest blogging, it will naturally guide you in choosing the right blogs to guest post on. Fundamentally, there are 3 factors that you should look for.
a- The blog should be visited regularly by your target audience. For example, if you’re a freelance writer looking for clients in the internet marketing and blogging niche, your target audience will consist of small business owners, internet marketing blogs, digital marketing agencies and tech entrepreneurs.
b- The blog should have a large following and a loyal community of readers. You can get a fair idea of the size of a blog from its social media following, the frequency of comments on its posts, its Google PR and its Alexa rankings.
c- The blog accepts guest post submissions

Try to maintain a list of all the blogs that meet this criterion so that you can keep an eye on them for future guest posts as well.

3) Get Familiar With Your Target Blogs
Once you have screened out your target blogs, it’s time now to have a closer look at their content.

One of the most common mistakes, that guest bloggers make, is to approach a blog with a guest post proposal without having a detailed look at its content.

You need to understand that most blog editors love quality guest posts. They’re always waiting for people to approach them with a high quality piece.

However, if a topic has already been covered in detail on a particular blog, or if it is completely irrelevant to the audience of that blog then how can you expect the editor to respond positively?

So make sure you have a good look at the blog before you pitch any guest post ideas to its editor.

Here are a few things that you should watch out for.
a- Look for the most popular posts on the blog. That will give you a fair idea of the type of content that works with its audience.
b- Go through the archives of the blog and look for the posts that are similar to the guest post topic you have in mind. See if everything related to the topic has already been covered or if there’s any unique angle or a different perspective that you can offer on the topic.
c- Also go through the comments on some of the more popular posts and see what the readers are saying about the topic.
d- Most blogs, that accept guest posts, usually have detailed guest post submission guidelines as well. Go through these guidelines in detail and make sure you stick to them while pitching your idea.

4) Build a Relationship With the Host Blog
Once you’ve gone through your target blogs and identified a few topics that you can pitch for guest posts, it’s time now to start building a relationship with the blog owner.

While it’s not absolutely necessary to know the blog owner in advance, it does make it much easier for you to understand the type of content the blog owner is looking for and also helps the chances of your post getting accepted.

And unlike the real world, online relationships can be developed much more quickly.

Here are a few steps that I would recommend you to take,
a- Follow the official accounts of the blog on Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and any other social media website applicable.
b- “Like” and “Share” a few of their posts on Facebook and give them a few Retweets and mentions on Twitter.
c- Leave a few insightful comments on some of the recent posts of your target blog.
d- You can send a short email to the blog owner as well with some quick feedback. about the blog or just to say thanks on a high value post.

Since relationship building requires regular interactions, therefore you should spend a few minutes every day to comment on your target blogs and share their posts on social networks.

Once you manage to have a few interactions with the owner of your target blog, you can now send them a well-crafted pitch and discuss your guest post idea with them.

5) Prepare Your Website for Visitors
If you are an intelligent guest blogger, which I assume you are, then you might already be following some of the advice that I’ve discussed above.

However, all your efforts can still go in vain if you do not prepare your own website/blog for the visitors that your guest post will send your way.

As I said at the start of this post, guest blogging is only a tool to achieve certain objectives. It is not the objective itself. So you need to get your own website ready to properly receive your guest post visitors and make it easy for them to take action.

You can do that either by setting up a dedicated landing page or by routing them to a page that showcases your products and services in detail.

Again, it will all depend on your objectives. For example, if your objective is to get email subscribers, you might route your visitors to a landing page and offer a free eBook or email course in return for their email address.

Similarly, if the objective is to visitors contact you for your services, then you might just route them to your portfolio page.

Whatever the objective is, make sure you don’t waste all the good work just because your own house is not in order

Conclusion
As a guest blogger it is extremely important to keep the ultimate objectives in mind. It doesn’t work in isolation and will not give you the right results if you don’t prepare a workable strategy.

So instead of wasting hours of valuable time on aimless guest blogging, make sure you do your homework first and prepare yourself before going on a guest blogging spree.

Almost everything that I’ve said in this post comes from my personal experiences as a guest blogger. So I would love to know how you approach guest blogging and prepare yourself for it.

I look forward to your comments.

What Is Guest Blogging And Its Benefits

guest blogging

Guest blogging is a method used by bloggers to increase blog traffic where bloggers write posts to be published on other bloggers' blogs. Guest blogging can work in one of two ways:
• You write a post to appear on people's blog

• Another person writes a post to appear on your blog.

Nowadays every blogger knows the importance of Guest Blogging. It has been playing a major role for growing your blog business and expanding it in the Internet World. But still lot people deny this important part of their blogging career.

They avoid Guest Blogging. In simple words, Guest Blogging is an art of publishing your post on any other person’s blog. No matter how is your blog’s condition or it belongs to an individual or many authors, Guest Blogging is always beneficial.

Most newbies or most individuals are still confused that they should write for other blogs or not. So, I am listing below 5 benefits for writing for other blogs i.e. Guest Blogging.

5 Benefits of Guest Blogging

1. Targeted and Quality Traffic
No one can deny the fact that Guest Blogging brings to you a lot of traffic. However, the best part of it is visitors of another blogs come to know about your blog by this process as you are given a backlink for submitting a post on any blog. As such, you are most likely to get unique visits to your blog. However, if your posts get published on a big blog, then you are most likely to receive huge traffic. However, this thing also depends upon the Quality of your post. By targeted traffic, I mean that if you own a Technology blog, you are most likely to submit Guest Post on a Technology blog. This mutual exchange of information helps to bring traffic from a different blog which brings you targeted Traffic.

2. Exposure
Everyone likes to be famous. Isn’t it? However, Guest Blogging helps to build an authority over the Internet people from different blogs and helps you & your blog to be famous. Guest Blogging helps you to bring exposure to you and your blog. It make your blog a Big brand and helping you to create high Impact over the Internet World. Let us consider this as you have published your post on two blogs. One gives you 100 visits and other gives you 50 visits. As a result, we conclude that your blog has been exposed to 150 people which gave your blog Targeted Traffic and Exposure. Guest blogging helps to be popular quickly.

3. Improve Your Writing Skills
We know that it’s the experience only which helps a person to decide what is right and what is wrong. However, when I was new to Blogging, most of my posts got rejected. Then I started from some small blogs and later on the process moved on and I became quite good at my writing skills. This is what The more you write, the more you learn. So, to improve our writing skills, we should be focused on our topics, try optimizing our posts for SEO and readers both which a quite hard process. Most bloggers will accept your Guest Posts only if they find your article at least better to some extent that readers find it useful. For that, you need to improve your writing skills.

4. Get More Backlinks
Whenever we submit a guest post on another blog, we get backlinks in the author bio and even sometimes in the post. Most bloggers include their blog’s link to get some essential backlinks. You need to be smarter in this thing. You should include your site keywords properly so as to increase your Search Engine Visibility and rank higher with your rankings.
These backlinks can also result to increase in your Pagerank. Good Pagerank means more Search Referrals and Good amount of organic traffic which is really most and needed.

5. Know what people think about your
posts

People that share views are different from blog to blog. Your blog visitors might take your posts in a different manner and others may too. However, you should be aware of the fact that what are the reaction of others about your posts, you must know that you are appreciated or you are criticized for your posts. However, Guest blogging can help you to know about this thing because people from other blogs may not know about and your blog, so you are most likely to get a honest opinion from them.

A Tour Through Link Building Strategies And Strategies

This post A Tour Through Link Building And Strategies Appeared first on Rankwatch

Getting traffic to one’s site (let me correct it); getting quality traffic to one’s site has been the most toughest task for webmasters. One evergreen technique to driving relevant content and rankings is link building.

Therefore, the power of link building can never be underestimated. Google has a simple point of view; the more the number of relevant links, the greater is the relevance and authority of websites.

So, your backlinks can be understood as ‘votes of confidence’. We discussed about what is link building and its need in the previous article.

Here we will be discussing about the strategies for building links and the various techniques for building quality and safe links that Google will love.

Link building strategies

link building strategies

Relevance

Let’s suppose that you have a website based on dog grooming. You get 2 backlinks:

• From a blog, explaining the “benefits of coffee”

• From a website featuring an article on the “best foods for dogs”

Needles to say, the backlink from the second website would be much more beneficial and valuable to you for the very simple reason,
because that website is relevant with your business.
While the quality of the sites (that you link to) are of utmost important, it is equally important that those sites are relevant to the category/line of your business. So, it’s better to approach only those sites to feature your content or offer you a link which have keywords that are important to your business.

Google’s ranking algorithms dictate that if a user finds the search results that you offer as effective and useful, you are likely to rank well. Go through the following points to analyze whether your backlink is relevant or not:
• Approach for links from site that functions. under the same industry.

• Just in case, if the site is not directly connected with your industry, make sure that a particular section of it is related to your business/product in some way or the other.

• Links earned on a particular page should be in sync with the content on that page.
• If you are getting links from unrelated websites, make sure that the content of the page that is providing the link is in sync with the content of the page that is receiving the link.

Keep your Anchor texts natural
The days where you could do excessive link
scheming, keyword stuffing and other black hat
SEO and still escape Google’s punishment are history now.
If link building has gained so much importance over time, the significance of anchor texts cannot be underrated as well.
It is useful and beneficial to put keywords in some anchor texts here (if and only if they it is relevant to your website/webpage) here and there, but if you follow the policy of flooding keywords in anchors for all the inbound links, you are in for some great trouble of coming under Google’s black hat practices radar and the following consequences. For instance, you are a website which sells dog grooming products. Now, in order to earn a backlink from a leading E-commerce website like Amazon, you write a guest blog on ‘How single product/ website retailers are losing their competitiveness’ and get a reference back to your website using anchor texts like best dog products, best seller for dog foods etc. Would it
make any sense?
So, the bottom line is that stop usin . keywords in your anchor text just for the sake of it and keep the links natural. Until, the link is consistent with the context of your content, you have nothing to worry about.

Keep your link building strategy diversified

Earning links is not about following a static link building strategy for a long time. In the landscape of Google’s ever changing algorithms, sticking with just one or two tactics for link building is not going to help you in any way.

There is definitely no hard and fast rule or way to get you tons of high valued and qualified links. Try employing new tactics, if it works, continue with it for some time and keep improvising. Some of these ways include:

• Create, publish and promote high quality content
• Try and get recommendations and citations from important, reputed and valuable sites

• Guest blog for some highly trusted sites

• Immerse and involve yourself and have a strong social media presence

• Interview someone, highly regarded in your industry

• Write testimonials about your business product/service

• Take up membership in local civic organizations, marketing groups, Chamber of Commerce etc

Focus more on Brand building

In the race for driving as much of the traffic they can and increasing the number of conversions, most SEO practitioners tend to forget this very important element of SEO - Brand building.
Building a strong brand presence should be the utmost priority of every webmaster. The wider is the brand awareness, the stronger is the brand image and hence it would require lesser effort to voluntarily get high quality inbound links if the brand is well known.
Now, in order to establish your brand well, it’s very important to use your own trails rather than copying your competitors. Your link building strategy should be completely different from that of your competitors in order to create your own value and prevent the confusion for the users. If both of you are featured on the same industry blogs, it would reduce your brand effectiveness and uniqueness.
Once you are through with the approach for framing your link building strategy, let’s go on and find out about a few techniques for building links

Link building techniques

link building strategies

Forums

Forums turn out to be a great tool for promoting your link to your niche and get even more involved within the community. On entering a forum, always concentrate on giving more and taking less while replying to threads, answering question, offering advice etc; try and contribute more in terms of value that is required by the member. This will, in a way build the trust in other’s eyes about your genuineness and will also establish your reputation as an expert in your niche. Use your forum signatures effectively, generate curiosity on them to make them clickable. On very unique way to do this is by periodically starting off with any controversial topic in your niche inviting passionate debaters and heated arguments.
Another very important point is, try to “Do follow’ forums so that your the link to your site in the signature is easily crawled by the search engines.
Some examples of such forums are V7nforum, Siteowners forum , Joomla forum etc.

Blog commenting

Blog commenting helps build your relationships and authority in industry, which ultimately leads to organic links and traffic. Start by looking out for blogs in your industry; not just any blogs but, those blogs which receive a good number of traffic and engagement. Once you are done with this, follow the link of commentators and their respective blogs. In this way, you can decide on some places for placing your comments. Now, be very careful with your comment, don’t do it just for the sake of it. Read and understand the entire blog and then, go ahead and comment. Make sure you comment adds value and contributes in some sense to the same/related topic.

Guest Blog post

As explained in the section above, find good website in your niche that receive a good amount of traffic, engagement and comments.
Reach out to them and request them to write a guest blog on your website and/or ask them if you could guest post on theirs. This is a very effective and simple way to building backlinks from quality websites.

Blogging

Blogging is again a very good way of building backlinks and promoting your website. When you create unique, interesting and fresh content, people will voluntarily want to link to you. But, you need to create engaging content for that to happen including inforgraphics, video tutorials, how to, lists etc.

Social Bookmarking

With internet becoming more interactive and users gaining more decisiveness on “what is good quality content and what is not”, building links through social bookmarking serves almost every online niche. You could submit your blogs or pages to the popular bookmarking sites including Digg, Reddit, StumbleUpon etc.
Getting backlinks from these websites will help a great deal in your SEO as search engines really love these sites. But be careful in handling the tags which are important to broadcast your news on a wide area network.

Infographics

Infographics are still a viable method for building links, though they aren’t as effective as they used to be. Infographics build links quick enough to influence a considerable change in PageRank, it builds links cost-effectively hence saving the big bucks of your budget and finally, it builds links safely, thus not inviting any negative attention from Google.
Infographics are concise and visual pieces of content that convey complex and significant information in a compelling, easy-to understand, engaging and interesting way. These types of viral content has a lot of advantages including wide reach, increased visibility of your business, but it’s link building still remains as it’s most important advantage.

Whenever an infographic is shared on a site, sharers post a link back to it. Now, any of their readers who might share the infographic, would also link back to the original, hence generating a large number of backlinks.

Link Exchange

Link Exchange is another good way for building links. However, you need to be careful with this one. I am not asking to go around ‘asking people for links’. Just move subtly with it. How, you may ask? It’s very simple, whenever you mention or cite any person/business/product in your post, just email him saying:
“ Hey, just mentioned you in this blog post http://www.xyz.com” .
It’s a simple message intending to convey, "Hey I did you a favour. Would you like to return the favour?”
And well, the most effective way is to ask people whom you already know in your industry.
In this way, you will be able to build yourself a platform for brand establishment. These types of relationships grow with time and helps to establish trust and respect amongst your industry peers.

Link baiting

Link baiting is another good method for promoting your website. It is simply content on your website, that people link to, not because you asked them to do so but, because they. wanted to do so. These types of linkable assets can come in any form including great content, a helpful e-book, a viral video, time sensitive news, quizzes, images, infographics, contests, whitepapers etc. These assets turn out to be a great way for garnering links for your website.

Photo sharing

Photo sharing is a very good technique to help buid your links. Images complement your web content and enhances visual experience. A great advantage of using image is that it builds your brand’s recognition, effectively acquires natural links and diversifies the types of links generated to your website. These images would include photographs, drawings/illustrations, typography, cinemagraphs, memes etc. Share these images on as many photo sharing websites like Flickr, Picasa, Photobucket, Shutterstock etc.

Video promotions

Similar to photo sharing, you can share the videos created by you and submit to sites like YouTube, Vimeo etc allowing people to see and link to it.

Reviews

One of the most popular and simpler ways of getting backlinks and attracting traffic is to reach out to people and bloggers (of your niche) and request them to write reviews about your business product/service. This will naturally bring you links. Get listed on all the sites where you can likely expect a review like RateitAll, Kaboodle etc.

Directory submission

Many believe that directory submission is dead. But I think, it is just another source to get more of the targeted traffic. You just have to be effective and efficient while selecting the directories for submitting your website. While it is okay to submit your articles/blogs to general directories, niche directories are highly recommended. It for sure, gives delayed results, but is worth giving a try. Some good directories are Dmoz, Scrub the Web, Directory World, So Much etc.

Press release

Go with press releases or get involved in press, even a local publication would work well for starters. This can provide powerful backlinks from high ranking news domains. As pointed above, you can start with smaller local publication and then slowly work your way up with larger publications.

Article submission

This is another useful method for garnering links. You can submit your articles on popular article directory sites like Ezine, Go Articles, Now public etc. This can also help you drive relevant traffic apart from getting you backlinks.

4 WAYS TO STAY MOTIVATED TO BLOGGING

There are well over 200 million blog out there, but only a portion of these are active. Many blogs are simply abandoned after a few months or years.

So, why do so many bloggers give up?
Most often it’s just that they feel their blog is invisible. If you’re not getting the traffic, shares and comments you’d hoped for, you can feel like you’re talking to yourself.

But there’s no reason to lose hope. In many ways, blogging is like how a shuttle launches, using 70% of its fuel on the take off and 30% for the rest of the trip.

In blogging, you need to invest a lot of time and energy at the beginning before you can easily maintain the day-to-day running of your blog.

But if you’re investing a lot time and energy in something which isn’t bringing back the results, you may start to wonder why you’re doing it. Your motivation could wane as you run out of time or things to say.

So, here are our tips to help you stay motivated to blog regularly:

Brainstorm Ideas
On a day when you’re feeling really motivated about your blog, take some time to brainstorm everything related to your life or blog topic that you might like to talk about. If you’re stuck for ideas, look at your favourite blogs or magazines for inspiration, or research upcoming national holidays that you could tie into your blog’s theme.

Turn these ideas into an editorial plan and then you have something to stick to – and it should help to combat ‘blank screen syndrome’.

Set Achievable Goals
No matter how successful your blog is, there’s always something you could improve. Set yourself achievable goals that you can measure – for instance, don’t just try to ‘get more Twitter followers’, instead try to grow your Twitter audience by 100 followers in the next month. This way, there will always be something that you’re working towards.

Use Positive Feedback to Motivate
Yourself

We’re all motivated by positive feedback – so make the most of any comments you get or any opportunities there are to get more feedback.

For instance, if you get a positive comment, respond to it and say more than just ‘thanks’ – use it as an opportunity to engage with that reader. If they loved your post, ask them what they’d like to read from you next. You can even use the reader’s comments as inspiration for your next post!

In the early stages of your blog, it’s important to share your posts with friends and family, so that you get some feedback, even if your readership is low.

You could also consider getting a blogging buddy, or you could join a blogging group – everyone is keen to support each other in these groups and you’ll get the benefit of knowing you’re helping other bloggers, whilst motivating yourself.

Create Good Blogging Habits
Part of why people stay motivated is because they’ve got into good habits – they have a structure and they stick to it. For instance, try creating a timetable for writing or photo-shoots and ensure it becomes your blogging ritual.

You could also try taking a break from your house and blogging in a public space. You’ll find it’s much harder to stare blankly at a screen in a coffee shop than it is in your own home – just knowing that people can see you’re doing nothing is enough to get anyone typing.

Creating a successful blog is never easy – but giving up is. While blogging can be tough, the rewards are worth it and hopefully this post has given you lots of ways that you can help motivate yourself to keep going.
